A Supernova occurs when a star reaches the end of its life and explodes, releasing rare elements that become the seeds of new stars. At Supernova Hair, we have embraced the elements of expansive creativity, curiosity, and compassion. Our own origin story began with the dying of another star on the Eugene hair scene, Imagine Salon. Their light shone brightly amongst the constellation of Eugene salons for over 20 years, and just as their star reached its end, one of their long time stylists gathered up the elements to forge something new.
About the Owner
Layla worked for the storied Imagine Creative Hair Design throughout her career, first in 2008 when the salon was in downtown Eugene, then again in 2019 as a member of the crew in the Jefferson Westside Plaza, nestled in the vibrant Whitaker neighborhood of Eugene, OR. When Leah, the owner of Imagine was ready to move on, Layla jumped on the opportunity to take over not only the space, but the legacy of this family business that shone brightly for over 20 years and served some of Eugene’s most creative personalities.
Layla’s own unique background has always informed her approach to creating the salon. As the daughter of Palestinian, German, and English immigrants, her perspective has always been shaped by a multicultural perspective.
As a lifelong Trekkie, the character of Spock has always deeply resonated with her and she feels his inclusion as a mixed species character was one of the most clever decisions made by creator Gene Roddenberry. His existence, and her own represent the potential of infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

Our mission is to bring creative hair to all types of humans. Layla’s inspiration comes from her own personal experience growing up as a nerd and weirdo. As a child of the 80’s and 90’s, she watched Star Trek: The Next Generation as it originally aired. It got her interested in the original Star Trek series and the intent of its creator, Gene Roddenberry, to bring together a crew from all over the globe (and the galaxy) in a way that we hadn’t seen yet in popular culture. This vision of a humanity that had resolved its differences and manifested the ability the voyage where no one had gone before is one that feels more important than ever.
